The Astronaut Program - combines vestibular, oculomotor and music
presented by Lynne Fleming, OTR/L
Recently I have been hearing about the Astronaut Program and getting requests for an information session. The program was developed by Sheila Frick and Mary Kawar. I asked Lynne Fleming if she would be interested, she was very receptive and I thought this would be a good opportunity to visit her clinic and talk about the relationship between private and school based practice, have a tour and learn about the Astronaut Program.
Just email Ginny for directions – I can forward them to you - too long to put in this notice!
2 CEU's, mem - $5, non mem - $15, no need to RSVP, students free

News: Legislative Alert!!! posted 2012-01-09 Urgent! Action needed by 1/15. As part of the legislative efforts in NHOTA, we are investigating issues related to decreased access to OT, PT and speech due to high copays or deductibles. A bill has been introduced in the NH House to promote equitable copays for therapy services. For instance some insurance plans, copays for therapy are $50 while MD visits are $20. The bill can be found at http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2012/hb1493_i.html
We are looking for information re: health insurance and therapy copays. I need 1) examples of copays for therapy versus doctor visits under different health insurance plans in NH. 2) examples of clients who may not go to therapy because of the higher copay.
I will collate the information to present to the OT, PT, Speech group working on this issue. Please send information to my email, legchair2@nhota.org.
Thank you for your assistance.

News: OT Participants needed for Research Project- Milligan College posted 2012-01-09 From: Lundgren, Trygve <TLundgren@milligan.edu> Date: Sat, Jan 7, 2012 at 1:42 PM Subject: Professional socialization - research project To: "office@nhota.org" <office@nhota.org>

Dear New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Association:
We are a group of graduate students doing research to examine influences and outcomes related to professional socialization in occupational therapy. With recent changes in the practice and educational environments related to occupational therapy, it becomes increasingly imperative for the profession to determine whether or not occupational therapists are, in fact, socialized appropriately for practice in a rapidly changing and complex environment. Questions such as the appropriate degree level for the preparation of occupational therapists remain unanswered at this time. As such, the purpose of this study is to examine influences and outcomes related to the development of select professional attitudes and values.
This internet-based survey will be conducted by emailing occupational therapists who have graduated within the past five years and consists of 78 questions. The purpose of this email is to inquire if your state association would be willing to allow our occupational therapy research group, under the direction of Dr. Jeff Snodgrass (of Milligan College) and Dr. Jyothi Gupta (of St. Kate's University), to utilize your email distribution list of your state’s occupational therapy association members. Posting the link of our research survey to your association’s website would also allow the survey to be distributed to your members without compromising their email address. The survey should take approximately fifteen minutes of your member’s time to complete. This survey represents our Master’s research project in professional socialization of occupational therapists and has been approved by Milligan College’s Institutional Review Board.
Your state association membership participation is this survey is voluntary and all answers will remain confidential. No individual results will be reported, and the information provided will be combined with the responses of other recently graduated occupational therapists and examined in aggregate.
We look forward to hearing from you regarding this survey and any assistance you can provide our occupational therapy research group at Milligan College, located in Northeast Tennessee. Any questions along with providing the link to our research survey can be provided by emailing Trygve Lundgren at tlundgren@milligan.edu
Sincerely,
Angela Dykes Jonathan Hunter Trygve Lundgren Lydia Marshall Gretchen Quave
